Laser Polishing and Annealing Injection Mold Using Dual-Beam Laser System

One of the challenges regarding application laser polishing in injection mold manufacturing is to eliminate tensile residual stress on a polished cavity surface without extra expenses an annealing vacuum furnace. This study aims develop fast method using dual-beam system by which can be laser-polished and then laser-annealed. Fourteen steel specimens were laser, resulting roughness reduction from initial state, Sa 1.11 μm, 0.16 smoother finish. A numerical simulation current CW was implemented optimize parameters guide experiment annealing. XRD measurement results showed that dropped 638 MPa 10 cycle time 40 min at 750 °C; therefore, fatigue cracks or corrosion (SCC) will no longer occur. Confocal microscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy used obtain microstructure phase composition microstructures, demonstrate effortless technique effectively employed manufacturing.
